Exploring public green underground parking garages

In the future, a “deep well style” three-dimensional garage will also be built

After the completion of the public green space in Block 325 of Daning Road Street in Jing’an District last year, it has become a good place for surrounding residents to relax and exercise, including a sunny lawn, characteristic trails, and a multi-functional tree lined square. Who would have thought that there is another hidden gem beneath this public green space: a public parking lot with 154 small car parking spaces, recently completed and put into operation. This is the first independent public parking lot constructed using public green underground space in Jing’an District, greatly alleviating the parking difficulties of surrounding communities.
This afternoon, 18 resident representatives and experts from Jing’an District Traffic Park Residential Area, Mingyuan Community, Tanjiazhai Residential Area, Xinmei Gonghe City, and Yangcheng Residential Area visited this parking lot. At the subsequent symposium, they shared their experiences and proposed countermeasures and suggestions based on their own perspectives and needs regarding the parking difficulties they personally experienced.

The reporter saw on site that the newly built public parking lot is located underground in the public green space on the northeast side of Jinmao Prefecture in Daning. Although it is working hours, there are still many vehicles parked in the garage. According to Ji Chunhe, Deputy Director of the Transportation Department of Jing’an District Construction Management Committee, after the completion of this parking garage, it will be opened to the public through the “Shanghai Parking” platform, effectively alleviating the parking conflicts in surrounding residential areas such as “Dicui Garden”.
Due to the fact that parking residents are mainly from surrounding residential areas, after the completion of this parking lot, three charging models were determined through negotiation and discussion with residents. In addition to hourly fees, there are also two monthly subscription models: one mainly focuses on off peak parking, with a monthly subscription fee of 600 yuan; Another good peak mode, with a monthly fee of 700 yuan, is available for residents to choose independently. At present, more than 60 households have signed up for monthly contracts, and it is expected that after a large wave of original contracts expire next year, more residents will choose this place
According to Ji Chunhe, as the central urban area, Jing’an District has limited land resources and the problem of “difficult parking” is very prominent. The governance of ‘parking difficulties’ is a’ people’s project ‘of concern to all sectors of society. Everyone has been trying their best and taking multiple measures to promote comprehensive governance. In addition to exploring the use of underground space in public green spaces to build parking garages, Jing’an District is also studying the construction of’ sunken well style ‘parking garages
Ji Chunhe told reporters that the so-called “sinking well style” parking garage refers to the construction of a three-dimensional parking garage by excavating space underground through vertical shield tunneling. The advantage of this technology lies in its small ground area and high storage capacity. A large ‘well’ can accommodate at least 200 vehicles, which can alleviate a large amount of parking demand. Currently, such parking garages have been built in Xiamen, Hangzhou, and Nanjing
Cui Ping, a citizen representative from Gonghe New Street, was very satisfied with the public green underground parking garage. She said that although the housing conditions of Shanghai citizens have improved, parking difficulties have always been a big problem. “My son-in-law has to drive for more than half an hour every day after work, which is extremely frustrating.” Cui Ping believes that the parking garage she visited today was very good, and the idea of utilizing green underground space was also very good. However, what is even more satisfying is the attitude of finding ways and integrating various resources to alleviate the “parking difficulties”. With favorable timing, location, and people, difficulties will be reduced. Today’s visit has given me confidence in solving parking difficulties
